Cancellation of concerts scheduled for 1 May and 19 June
We regret to inform subscribers and ticket-holders that the concert with Piers Lane and ANAM musicians that was scheduled for 1 May in the Society’s 2020 series has been cancelled. The decision is a disappointment for our friends at ANAM as well as for GCMS, but we’re sure that members and subscribers will understand the extraordinarily difficult circumstances in which all arts organisations are operating at present. Our friends at the Melbourne Chamber Orchestra have regretfully cancelled their season with Sophie Rowell, which means our June concert cannot proceed.
We shall be in touch with individual subscribers and ticket-holders (by email where we have that information) regarding the cancellation. All ticket-holders for this concert will receive a full refund for the value of the ticket.
Any who prefer to direct the refund to become a donation to ANAM will have the option to do so. Arrangements for this will be explained in our communication about refunds.
ANAM will use any funds that result from this arrangement to support their current students, whose opportunities to earn from concerts, teaching and casual performances have been severely restricted by the pandemic.
I am especially grateful to Anne Powers, our Treasurer, who will have the additional burden of managing this process. She and I salute David Fox, on whom we rely to have the Society’s database provide necessary information.
With the Committee, I wish all of our members and subscribers the very best in an anxious time. “Keep calm and listen to music” can be our shared motto!
